Broadband light that targets pigment, redness and dullness in one session
Rather than a single wavelength, BBL uses a broad light spectrum and directs it, through filters, to different depths and different targets in the skin. The energy is absorbed by melanin in a sun spot or haemoglobin in a dilated vessel; the target heats while the healthy tissue around it is spared. That selectivity makes it possible to address pigmentation, redness and overall tone together in one session. It is most often chosen for sun and age spots, persistent redness on a rosacea background, fine vessels around the nose, enlarged pores and general dullness. Beyond the face it is used on the neck, décolleté, back and especially the backs of the hands — the areas most exposed to the sun. It features in our pigmentation and skin care protocols, and for deeper pigment problems it is planned alongside the Q-Switch Helios III.
BBL works on the principle of selective photothermolysis: the light is filtered so that it is absorbed only by the target chromophore — melanin or haemoglobin — leaving surrounding tissue intact. Because the skin surface is not disrupted there is no meaningful downtime and patients return to daily life the same day. Pigmented spots darkening and flaking away over the following days is the expected, desired response. A programme of three to four sessions a few weeks apart is usually planned, and clinical studies support the long-term benefit of treatments repeated at regular intervals. For skin living under the strong Antalya sun that means a renewal schedule of a few sessions a year, and consistent sun protection before and after treatment is decisive for how long the result lasts.
