What a surgeon suspends during a facelift is not the skin itself but the muscular-fascial layer beneath it, known as the SMAS. What sets HIFU apart from other tightening methods is its ability to bypass the skin surface and concentrate ultrasound energy directly in that layer, 4.5 mm deep. As the micro thermal damage at those focal points heals, the tissue shortens and draws upward. Different handpieces work at 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm, which means fine surface lines and the deep supporting layer can each be addressed in the same session. The areas we treat most often are the facial contour, jawline, jowls, neck and brow. Planned together with endolaser and the Endolift laser, both the fat compartment and the supporting layer can be handled within one treatment plan.
Focused ultrasound concentrates sound waves at a chosen depth, much as a lens gathers sunlight to a single point. At those points the temperature reaches 65-70 °C and collagen fibres contract immediately, while surrounding tissue is unaffected; the wound-healing response that follows continues to produce new collagen for months. The great practical advantage of HIFU is that it asks for no pause in daily life — make-up can be applied and work resumed the same day. In return the result is not immediate: it becomes visible over about three months and lasts twelve to eighteen months depending on the individual. It does not replace surgery in patients with significant skin excess, which is why setting expectations and selecting the right candidate at the first consultation matters as much as the treatment itself.
